Privacy issues have become widespread on even some of our favorite websites, browsers, and web tools, like GSuite, Ring, Facebook, and Firefox. Data security concerns have led seven out of 10 Americans to feel that their personal information is less secure than it was five years ago. This has brought up the question – How do we take our privacy back? Decentralized internet is the newest trend on how to help everyone become involved and keep their information safe.

Therefore, we would like to go over how decentralized internet works so that anyone can help. Our innovative leaders at New Kind of Network are here to explain peer-to-peer networks, blockchain, all of the workings of a decentralized internet, and how it benefits everyone!

1. Everything Runs Peer-To-Peer

Peer-to-peer networking is when two or more computers are connected via the internet so that tasks and workloads can be partitioned between peers.  In other words, it’s a distributed application architecture. Peers are equal, and there are no privileged users. It allows for more efficient, collaborative work and allows companies to execute complicated tasks with more brainpower.

2. Decentralized Internet Keeps Private Data Private

With decentralized internet running on peer-to-peer networks, data becomes more distributed which  makes it more difficult for large internet giants to collect and store someone’s data. With each peer containing a fraction of the total data, no one person holds all the keys.

This helps remove the concern that companies with large amounts of personal data could be hacked, releasing information about you as has happened in the past with companies like Equifax and others. Decentralized internet helps keep everyone’s information safe.

3. Blockchains Are a Huge Driving Force

Nearly everyone has heard of Bitcoin. Bitcoin was just the beginning of an era where people were trying to prevent one large corporation or government from owning everything. With Bitcoin, it was currency, but this spurred other businesses to use blockchain technology as well. Encrypted copies of information can be stored on multiple nodes, allowing for distributed control.

The goal of Blockchain is to provide a trustless system where multiple parties can confirm. This is how peer-to-peer networking comes into play. Peer-to-peer networking uses a method called consensus. This means multiple parties can confirm information is correct before writing that data to a ledger.

4. Decentralized Internet is More Reliable

Having multiple peers running the resources to provide data to a requester means that if one peer is down or can’t be reached, the other peers on the network can take over. With a centralized network, if the main server is down, you can’t access your data.

With a peer-to-peer network, if one computer is down, you can ask for the information from another computer. This causes a peer-to-peer system with multiple computers to have virtually no downtime.

5. Decentralized Internet Makes Hacking Harder

Decentralized internet also protects the network from potential attacks from hackers. Distributed denial of service (DDOS) attacks are extremely common and are only effective because infrastructure is run on the current server system. DDOS attacks send large amounts of data to a server to overload it and bring it down.

These types of attacks become difficult when the data is more distributed as is the case with decentralized internet.  To DDOS a decentralized internet, the attacker would need to attempt to bring down every server in the network which would take an enourmous amount of resources and would be nearly impossible to execute. . It also means that your data is safer from breaches because it is spread across so many different sources. Decentralized Internet will make current hacking techniques obsolete.

6. Decentralized Internet Gives You Digital Freedom

Digital freedom is the ability to express your honest opinions without being tracked or monitored. Decentralized internet makes you completely anonymous if you want, and this provides you the freedom to say what you’d like.

Decentralized internet means little opportunity to filter data. It means posting freely, and accessing information with greater autonomy.

7. Anyone Can Support Decentralization

There are already many applications and sites that run off of blockchains with decentralization. Graphite Docs is a word processing program that doesn’t keep any of your data. It is fast and accessible to anyone!

And at NKN, we use decentralization to provide content delivery as well as messaging, streaming and file transfer services for enterprises globally. These are great solutions for any business that wants to keep their data safe.

The best part is that you can participate and become part of the decentralized internet today.. You’ll have to do a little bit of research, but by becoming a “miner” on our network you will earn rewards by connecting your computer to our network and sharing your network resources and build a better and more secure internet.
