Menlo Park, California
NKN is excited to announce that we have officially joined the Open Networking Foundation (ONF) as an Innovators member. NKN intends to participate in and contribute to the following projects: ONOS (Open Network Operating System), CORD (Central Office Re-architected as a Datacenter), P4/Stratum, and other relevant projects and lab activities.
Led by AT&T, Comcast, Deutsche Telekom, China Unicom, Google, NTT Group, and Turk Telekom, ONF has a proven track record of bringing open source innovations such as ONOS and CORD into commercial deployment. Together with the Open Compute Project (OCP) and Telecom Infra Project (TIP, where NKN is also a member), we now have a complete ecosystem of open source building blocks for the telecom industry of the future.
NKN’s technology can provide benefits for the Software Defined Network (SDN) in key areas including: access to real-time traffic and pricing information via NKN’s Proof of Relay (PoR) protocol; enable next generation decentralized SDN leveraging NKN’s protocol that functions across service provider boundaries and between consumers and service providers. In addition, NKN can provide tokenized economic incentive to deploy open source infrastructure solutions.
About Open Network Foundation
The Open Networking Foundation (ONF) is a non-profit operator led consortium driving transformation of network infrastructure and carrier business models. The founding partners are AT&T, Comcast, Deutsche Telekom, China Unicom, Google, NTT Group, and Turk Telekom.
We are an open, collaborative, community of communities. The ONF serves as the umbrella for a number of projects building solutions by leveraging network disaggregation, white box economics, open source software and software defined standards to revolutionize the carrier industry.
About NKN
NKN is the new kind of network connectivity protocol & ecosystem powered by blockchain for an open, decentralized, and shared Internet. We motivate users to share network connections, service providers to utilize unused bandwidth, and developers access to global peer to peer networking stack.
NKN’s goal is to revamp the $1.4 trillion communication business, where we face many challenges today such as inefficient resource utilization, lack of net neutrality, and centralized network control. By blockchainizing the network layer, NKN is providing the missing third pillar of internet infrastructure just as Ethereum has done for compute and ipfs for storage. Our core technical innovations are dynamic routing, Proof of Relay, highly scalable consensus, and token reward mechanism.
NKN is founded by Yanbo Li, former co-founder of Onchain and advised by Dr. Whitfield Diffie, the father of modern public key cryptography and Turing Award winner. NKN core team members come from Ex-Google, Qualcomm, Nokia, Amazon, and Baidu.
